Because our team knows the right questions to ask, we pull students through the essay writing process in a matter of days, not weeks or months. We take a limited number of students each year and work with them one-on-one. Our staff includes two writing coaches, Joan Martin and Catherine Ahearn, and a staff of six Ivy-educated and admissions-experienced editors to review essays. Our team’s combined admissions experiences ensure success for each student.
Though based in Boston, our team works with students across the US and around the world. We work with all types of students with different learning styles, college goals, and career paths, including transfer students.
Joan Martin, PhD
Based on seventeen years of working in admissions and as a college admissions coach, Joan has created a method to craft applications quickly and very successfully. Her results speak for themselves. She is able to bring out the important points of a student’s high school life through a series of questions and then nail an essay topic, the most stressful part of the admissions process.
She has earned degrees from MIT, Harvard, and the University of Michigan. Joan is also an Admissions Expert with Varsity Tutors. Please view her interview.
Catherine Ahearn, PhD
Catherine has been a member of the CollegeStartOnline team since 2013. She holds a PhD in Editorial Studies and a BA in Literary Studies from Middlebury College. She currently works at the MIT Press and is the lead copy editor for the journal, Studies in Arts and Humanities. In the past she has worked in publishing and creative communications at Picador, the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses, and the New England Review.
Catherine and Joan collaborate on each student’s work. Then our team of Ivy-educated and admissions-experienced editors jury the all-important personal essay.
